Later Gotz Moderns

I am consolidating my Sasha collection a bit, so that my dolls can have more room (and hence more visibility) in the space available. It was a difficult decision, but I've decided to part with my four pale-skinned Later Gotz girls. I will miss them, as they are lovely dolls with their fair skin, rosy cheeks, and long straight hair. Still, I'd prefer that they be enjoyed elsewhere rather than hidden at the back of a cabinet here.

They will be available at my sales table at the upcoming Sasha Festival in Springfield. Since I'll be packing them for our trip soon (is it really only two weeks away?!), I decided to take some group pictures today. It was a bit of a rush job, but I think these turned out okay.

Meet Wibke

Like Stella, Wibke is a pale skin "modern" doll produced by Gotz in 2000 who wears clogs. My Stella and Wibke both have the later maroon-colored clogs.


Shoes and skin color aside they don't look much alike though; while Stella has brown eyes and brown flowing hair, Wibke is a blue-eyed blonde with thick braids.

She joins Alice, Anika, and Lilly as my fourth Later Gotz doll with two long braids. I will try to do some comparison posts in the future -- both of my pale-skinned "modern" dolls, and of my dolls with braids.

Meet Kyra

Kyra is my third redhead, but she has a different look than the other two. Both Ruth and Marina have green eyes and freckles, while Kyra has blue eyes and no freckles. Her eyes coordinate with her pale blue corduroy dress.


That's a look reminiscent of the early Sashas from the 1960's, but there's more to her outfit. Kyra also has a furry coat and hat, plus a white knit scarf and mittens-on-a-string. She looks a bit like a snowman when she's all bundled up.


A glamorous snowman that is, or perhaps a Nordic Princess.

Meet Marina

Like Luisa, Marina is styled after an earlier Trendon doll. Sasha Brunette Marina wore a marina/sailor outfit, hence her name. The later Gotz Marina wears a similar outfit, but is a redhead instead. She was produced in both 1999 and 2000. I believe my Marina is from 1999, as the booklet attached to her dress only shows dolls that were produced in 1999. I used some of the lovely flowers in my neighbor's yard as a backdrop for these photos.


Like Ruth, she has green eyes and freckles to go with her red hair. Unfortunately the freckles are a bit hard to see in this picture (I think I need a better camera to take close-up shots, as mine refuses to focus when I try).

Meet Stella

Stella was produced in 2000, and has pale skin and pink blush like Anika from 2001. Gotz had started shifting at least some of their dolls to this more "modern" look. She wears clogs on her feet (as did Wibke from the same year), which appear far more red in photographs I've seen of other dolls. I'm not sure if mine were always this brownish shade, or started out redder and changed over time. The dress that I put on Sofie is just a different-colored version of this dress.


She has very pale brown eyes and her original red hairclip. I don't know if Stella always came with a braid or not, but most of the dolls I've seen for sale online have a braid on her right hand side. When I received my doll the clip was simply holding a section of hair by her scalp; I added the braid and really like the way her hair looks with it.


UPDATE: From Susanna Lewis' Doll Charts, I have learned that the first Stellas produced had red clogs, while those produced later had dark maroon clogs ("dark maroon" is a better description than "brownish" as I referred to them). Thus, I must have one of the later Stellas. I have also learned that not all Stellas had a braid at the side. I'll never know for sure how my doll's hair was originally styled (I'm suspecting no braid, but since her tags were removed by her previous owner, perhaps her hair was unbraided also). I like it with the braid, but it's nice to know I can remove it and still have her look "authentic".

Meet Sofie

Sofie didn't originally appeal to me, probably because of her outfit (from the tools, I think she's supposed to be a carpenter). But I found her for a good price and decided I could always change her clothes. She was produced in 2000, and came to me in mint condition - only removed from her tube to have pictures taken. When Sophie arrived and I saw her pretty face, I was glad that I decided to add her to my collection.


Next it was time for some pretty clothes to replace the coveralls. I purchased a pink and white Sasha dress made by Gotz in 2001 (still in its packaging), some white Mary Jane shoes, and a pair of lace-trimmed socks. With a wide ribbon in her hair, she's a changed girl.


Her hair is very straight and sleek, and she looks so much better to me now. More childlike.
