A Very Gregor Christmas

All of Boo's dolls were dressed in red and green on Christmas Eve, awaiting the arrival of Santa. Little did they (or she) know what was in store on Christmas morning.

Boo asked if she could decorate a little tree for the dolls, and I agreed (this saved me having to do it myself once she was asleep, because I had a surprise planned). Here is how the tree looked when she went to bed, with a stocking for each of her dolls. The gifts under the tree are empty boxes just for show, but she put a few old items in the stockings: coins, a hat, a toy car... I intentionally rushed her so that she didn't have much time to set out gifts because that was part of my surprise.

Here is how the tree looked when I went to bed, with the addition of two Gregors, two more stockings, and lots of doll-sized wrapped packages.

Boo glanced at the little tree when she woke up, but didn't seem very excited. In fact, she was a bit miffed that I'd removed what she put in the stockings. She thought that the Gregors were mine and that I had created a scene for my blog with empty packages. Boy was she surprised to discover that the boys were hers and the wrapped packages all contained gifts for her dolls! I had labeled the packages with their names, so before she unwrapped her own gifts from under the big tree, Boo helped the dolls unwrap their gifts from under the little tree.

And yes, the discovery that the boys can also become short-haired girls when desired.  :-)

When she told me she wanted a Gregor "some day", Boo came up with a list of prospective names: Daniel, Ethan, and Trevor. Of course she decided that none of those worked once she had dolls in hand, so names have not yet been determined. The current front runners are James for the brunette and Caleb for the blonde.

She has been playing dolls with a friend from the neighborhood the past few days, and having fun with the added dimension that males add. They can be brothers, boyfriends, husbands, fathers, kings, and even male house servants (apparently the girl dolls love having the boy dolls wait on them).

Sasha Serendipity

One of my favorite things about going to festivals is being able to see my dear friend Tina in person. We live on opposite coasts and thus settle for email the rest of the year. Here is a picture of us from this year's festival, taken by Tina's husband Jason on our way to Friday dinner.

Tina won a navy blue jumpsuit in the Helper Drawings at the festival. Neither of us recognized it at first, but assumed it was an original item of clothing due to the metal zipper. It made us both smile when she realized it was part of the Gregor "Jumpsuit" outfit. You see, she already had a bandanna from our table hostess gifts at the 2010 Sasha Festival. A special bandanna; each of these bandannas were linked by their origin, as Tina had cut and sewn them from a piece of dealer replacement fabric. And she had similar shoes from her "Sailing Suit" doll - all she needed were red and white striped socks. I had a pair I bought from The Doll Works, which I sent her to complete the outfit. She emailed me this picture of her Gregor "looking like a million bucks".

Then she thought of something and emailed me another picture. I'd won a striped hat in the Children's Fund Auction at the 2009 Sasha Festival. Tina's Gregor was wearing a striped shirt at the time, so he borrowed the hat to look like "Where's Waldo". I wound up giving him the hat because it suited him so well. Now three years later I'd given him more red and white stripes.

Sometimes things were just meant to be.

Royal Duo

A modern fairy tale starring Prince Gregor and Princess Sasha (who make a very cute couple).

Boy meets girl ...

... they fall in love ...

... she borrows his clothing.

Meet Prince Gregor

When I bought Princess Sasha, I also bought Prince Gregor from the same seller. His outfit might seem a bit silly (though it coordinates well with Princess Sasha as you will see in my next post), but his haircut and blue eyes are adorable. Unfortunately I didn't warm up to his wig either, and he was sold on to a new home as well. He is also a limited edition, though far less rare since about 3000 were made in 1985.

I don't plan on buying any more wigged Sashas, though I may change my mind someday. I love my two re-roots though, and have already been discussing a potential third with Bettina.

Blue Bicycle

As of this posting, there is a great picture with a blue bicycle on the Sasha "welcome" page at Let's Play Dolls. It shows a redhead no-navel riding the bike with a brunette baby girl sitting on the back rack and a basketful of toys. My Sashas wanted a bike like that to ride too, so I did some searching online and found several on eBay (turns out it's an American Girl item for Molly, which was retired in 2006). The bicycle I purchased is missing the mirror, but otherwise in great shape. It's a little bit large, but Gregor is a big enough boy that he can handle it.

His blue t-shirt came from Rosie Bloom, where I bought the most adorable pair of shoes a while back. Not only is it more appropriate for pedaling around than his long-sleeve checked shirt, but it makes his beautiful blue eyes really stand out.

That's Toto in the basket, part of the 2008 Festival Outfit (pictured here) which I won in the Children's Fund Auction at last year's festival.

Sasha Festival 2009 - post 3

I finally found time to take pictures of the festival souvenir outfits. The Gregor outfit (modeled by Gregor Hiker) consists of: off-white pants, off-white with lilac trim V-neck sweater, ecru socks, and beige lace oxfords. The Sasha outfit (modeled by Calla) consists of: white batiste lilac-smocked dress & panties, lilac cardigan, white socks, and purple ankle strap shoes. Dottie Daily designed the souvenir dress, Freda Ainslie knit the sweaters, and Jean Jenson made the shoes - all spectacular!

Gregor and Calla are also wearing necklaces which weren't part of the official outfits; I received them as a table gift at Sunday's brunch. The shark tooth and sand dollar necklaces were made by Dominic and Carolyn Ruscio, who winter in Venice, Florida (the "Shark Tooth Capitol of the World"). I think they complement the outfits perfectly!

Jean Jensen's shoes are such a delight that I felt they warranted their own pictures.

1980's Honey Blondes

After commenting in yesterday's post about how different Cameo and Calla looked, I though a comparison photo was in order. You can see here how Cameo's bangs are narrower, they don't extend as wide across her forehead. Her hair is a slightly darker shade which I'd describe as more golden, and it catches the light more. Calla is a bit taller and her head a bit larger as well -- an example of how the dolls "grew" over time as molds were recast.

I decided to add my Gregor to the comparison. Even though he's officially named Gregor Sandy Hiker, his hair color is basically honey blonde. Its shade is almost identical to Calla's, and with their matching blue eyes they look like fraternal twins. I really like this picture of the three of them.

Meet Gregor Hiker

Gregor Sandy "Hiker" is the only male doll I currently own. He was produced in 1986, with fewer than 400 made before the factory closed. He is the only Gregor with sandy/honey blonde hair. Both of these facts make him a bit special, at least in my eyes.

He wears a pack on his back which includes a rolled up sleeping bag, and looks pretty darn cute in his cap. It's a bit chilly for sleeping outside here, so I don't think he'll trek very far today. The spot you see under his nose in this picture is not caused by the camera, but actually exists; he has a small, perfectly round, shiny dot which catches the light at certain angles. Go figure. [UPDATE: It was caused by something on the surface, not a flaw in his vinyl. I gently washed his upper lip, and the spot is gone!]

My husband is not sure how Gregor survives spending all his time with thirty females.
